Ballistics and Munitions Testing
Mark Johnson from Slowmo uses his
extensive knowledge to select the optimum frame rate
(up to a staggering 500,000fps), correct exposure taking
into consideration the blast itself and best camera
placement to achieve the best possible detail. Slowmo
can provide 3 or more cameras all of which can be triggered
from distance. Bullets and the effect of penetration
through various materials have all been recorded in
ultra high speed. Frame rates between 30000fps and 100000fps
are regularly used. This high speed footage has been
shown at Defence exhibitions all over the world.
The Photron SA1.1 has a reputation
of being one of the best cameras for ballistic and munitions
use and Slowmo is proud to have two of them.
Slowmo regularly covers the high speed camera requirements
at Radnor Ranges filming all types of ballistics and
munitions testing (and in all kinds weather including
very low temperatures).

In addition, SlowMo has also been hired by production
companies filming controlled explosions involving plastic
explosives, gunpowder, military vehicles and ultra high
voltages for broadcast purposes. In 2008 and 2010, SlowMo
recorded footage for ITN/NBC/C4 news on the effect of
on-board plane explosions.
Latest news - Slowmo will shortly acquire the new Photron
SA-X. This camera will take the high speed filming of
ballistics/munitions to the next level. It offers exceptional
resolution and light sensitivity at ultra high frame
rates.
